The English College Dubai is proud to announce that it has achieved the Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS), a respected UK accreditation developed by Optimus Education in partnership with the National Children's Bureau (NCB). The award recognises schools that demonstrate excellence in promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing through a whole-school approach.

As one of Dubai's leading British curriculum schools, The English College believes that exceptional education is built on both academic excellence and a culture where students and staff feel safe, supported and able to flourish. Achieving this accreditation reflects the school's ongoing focus on creating an environment where wellbeing underpins learning, personal growth and success.

A Whole-School Approach to Wellbeing

The Wellbeing Award for Schools recognises schools that place wellbeing at the centre of leadership, teaching and learning, safeguarding, staff wellbeing, inclusion, student voice and engagement with families.

Over the past year, The English College undertook a comprehensive self-evaluation and development process, gathering valuable feedback from students, parents, staff and the wider school community. This collaborative approach enabled the school to review its existing practices, celebrate its strengths and identify opportunities to further enhance wellbeing across every aspect of school life.

The final stage of the accreditation took place on 29 June, when an independent assessor reviewed the school's evidence and met with representatives from across the school community. Following this rigorous assessment, The English College successfully achieved the Wellbeing Award for Schools, with the accreditation valid until 29 June 2029.

More than recognising a single achievement, the accreditation affirms the school's ongoing commitment to ensuring wellbeing continues to shape the educational experience of every student and member of staff.

Wellbeing at the Heart of School Life

At The English College, wellbeing is embedded throughout the school rather than delivered as a standalone initiative. It informs teaching and learning, pastoral care, safeguarding and staff development, helping to create a positive environment where every student feels valued, respected and supported.

For families, the accreditation provides independent assurance that their children are learning in a school where personal development is valued alongside academic achievement. By nurturing confidence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging, The English College helps prepare students with the skills and mindset they need to succeed both in school and beyond.

A Shared Achievement

Achieving the Wellbeing Award for Schools is a testament to the dedication of the entire English College community. Students, parents, teachers and support staff have all played an important role in creating a caring, inclusive and supportive culture that places wellbeing at the heart of school life.

The English College extends its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the accreditation process. This recognition reflects a shared commitment to creating a school community where every learner feels empowered to grow, contribute and achieve their full potential.

As The English College continues to build on this achievement, the school remains committed to ensuring that wellbeing continues to shape every student's educational journey. The Wellbeing Award for Schools is an important recognition of this ongoing focus, reinforcing the belief that when students feel safe, supported and valued, they are better equipped to learn with confidence, develop resilience and achieve their full potential—both in school and beyond.

Legacy, safety & global citizenship

We were very impressed by how The English College had stood the test of time. We've loved how our psychological safety is not a concept, but the norm, while continuously challenging children to be the best version of themselves, and prioritize being good global citizens.
